Movement Food Talks With David Turnbull



How did you get started?

I use to be a computer nerd.  My jobs use to be building and fixing computers along with being a network analyst.  I discovered at a young age through pains in my own body and my unhealthy lifestyle I had to change.  I went back to school to be a personal trainer. This way it made me stay on track, as I believe you need to practice what you preach to be a strong role model.  Since I preach optimal health I had to live it.  I then created my company TurnFit.  My team and I help people who are open-minded, to adopting a healthier lifestyle.  We have an unrivaled health team including Vancouver’s best, Nutritional supplement expert, Physiotherapist, Counselors, Naturopaths, doctors in Western and Chinese medicine, Chiropractor, Meal Prep company, private yoga trainer and the list is growing.

What motivates you to keep going and push harder?

The health care system is currently broken in Canada and our vision is to fix it through well-rounded care. We listen to you, we learn everything that we can about you and then link up with the correct health professionals for you and then design a custom program for your goals and your body. People often come to us for fat loss as a primary goal.  After what we teach them through our team we help lower stress and its inevitable people lose the fat and put on quality muscle. 

How do you find having a meal prep service make all your food?

Having a meal prep service makes life so convenient.  I hate cooking.  I rather spend more hours in the day doing things I love like training others or coaching people around the world.  With the meal prep done for me I can easily stay on track with the proper nutrition and have a verity of meals that I love.

What is your current training philosophy? How often do you change your training? 

My training changes when my body tells me it needs to change. This means if I stop seeing progress then my plan needs to change.  Right now TurnFit has an unrivaled workout plan that is only 30 minutes long. This new system gets results faster then your standard 1 hour plan.  Our clients really appreciate that with us they get to save time and maximize their efforts. When I personally use to put in 1 hour or 2 hours workouts at the gym I didn’t see the results that I see now with 30 minutes. Now my personal workouts are 4-5 days a week 30 minutes total.  Any longer then that I find our cortisol levels raise to high and we are no longer getting optimal gains. I am all about efficiency and quality in all aspects of life. This is one huge reason I use Muscle Food as a meal prep company.

What is your approach to nutrition?

My approach to nutrition includes a variety of quality healthy foods that incorporates a balanced portion of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. A healthy diet needs to be sustainable in order to achieve your fitness goals.

How many calories do you consume in a day?

Currently I consume 2800 calories a day.

Do you bulk and cut or stay lean year round?

I use to cut and bulk but now I try to stay lean year round as I believe this is healthier for your body.  I try to maintain 10-12% body fat.

What does your supplementation look like?

What has been your biggest accomplishment in the fitness field?

 The network of health professionals we have on our team is my biggest accomplishment.  We all have similar core values as a human. We all truly care about people not money, we are in the health industry to help people grow stronger, both mentally and physically.  People with great caring personalities are hard to find these days.  With we guarantee we are your total health team.
